HISTORY OF PICKLELICIOUS

In 1991, Robyn Brown-Samra took the first step towards realizing her dream of owning her own business. The logical first step was to open a booth at a flea market.

In her words, "...as a Jewish kid from Jersey, I was pretty much raised on pickles and bagels. I felt confident pickles would be a runaway seller."

At first, Robyn sold pickles in New York City, at local fairs and markets throughout the metropolitan area. She built a loyal clientele there. Robyn recalls, "Customers used to tell us that they walked up and down the street fair salivating, searching desperately for our booth. We sold out every single weekend."

With the help of her brother Jay Brown and husband Leo Samra, Picklelicious opened retail doors at 580 Amsterdam Avenue in New York, where she featured different gourmet products to enhance the variety of pickles. It was a big success, but with her brother moving to start a family and the unexpected passing of her husband the store closed.

"Inspired by Leo`s love of the business I decided to carry on the Pickle Licious name. I would like to thank my two beautiful teenage daughters, Alex and Taylor, family and friends for all your support. Throughout the years in good and bad you have been advisors, comforters, criticizers and encouragement providers."

We Miss You Leo!

Despite the circumstances, Robyn continued with the legacy by opening a new store this time in the heart of Bergen County, Teaneck N.J., Where she has grown to have quite a clientele.

"It makes me so happy to see customers reactions when they walk through the door. Not only to see their eyes lite up but also knowing that they are going to say something about the smell. "Ohhh!!! I can remember when I was young and my grandfather would take me down to The Lower East Side" or "When I was young my mother would give me a nickel for a piece of candy, but I would get a BIG JUICY SOUR PICKLE, nickel for a pickle!" The sincere reactions and memory sharing creates a GREAT shopping excperience for the customers and for me. Everybody has a pickle story or a pickle memory. Hopefully we carry on the legacy of not only selling pickles, but creating pickle memories and stories".
